For x_thedoctor_x Dark Jack and Dark Doctor

 Jack rested with his feet up on the console of the TARDIS his new leather coat tossed haphazardly on the back of the captain's chair. He's humming softly to himself just a wordless tune. He is beyond happy to be in the only happy home he has ever known. He had wished that it had been under better reasons but he has the Doctor and that was all that mattered to him. 

He hears the sound of footsteps but he doesn't look around too comfortable to move. Besides who else could it be. He grins and waits for the Time Lord to speak.

Well, I stopped having a companion a couple hundred years ago. You can only break, or lose so many before it's enough. I've been alone for a very long time, Jack. After what happened to Donna, I just...couldn't.

I understand Doctor....Donna was an amazing woman.....I've never forgotten what she did for us.

And I took it all away from her, Jack. I gave her the universe, and she didn't even get to keep the memories. She would have rather died than do what I did to her, but that wasn't an option for me, even if she hated me in that moment.

I've done that too Doctor....I have a pill called retcon....it can take memories away as many as I need. It's how I've kept Torchwood safe for this long.

You know, there's something I've always wanted to fix, but never allowed myself because it broke the rules of Time. It's something I've never forgotten and now, I can fix it and forget it, right? My laws, my rules.

[captainspain]

"And what is that Doctor." Jack asks seriously.

[x_thedoctor_x]

"I'm going to save Adric. He was too young, too brilliant to die that way. And it was my fault. But I can go back and save him, Jack!"

[captainspain]

"Adric....that's the one companion I couldn't find anything about."

[x_thedoctor_x]

"Adric was just a boy. Oh he was brilliant, a mathematical genius! And I didn't keep him close enough and he was trying to save Earth. Save us. Instead, he ended up on a ship, one that exploded and incidentally wiped out the dinosaurs, but that's not the point. I can go back, I can get him off that ship before it explodes, Jack. I can save him. He can grow up and use that mind of his to do the amazing things he was meant to do...before he met me."

So many lives ruined just by meeting him, and Adric was a pain he'd buried so deep he sometimes let himself forget. But now, now he could remember and he could break the rules and he could fix it!

"He sounds like someone like I would have liked," Jack says, "like my own brother. Gray was smarter then anyone ever realized. That's something I would love to fix too, but I don't know how."

"Adric is a fixed point in time, one of those things you can't change." The Doctor gave Jack a determined grin. "But you just watch me do it."

"What happened to, Gray? I'm sure we can figure something out."

[captainspain]

"He was captured by slavers," Jack says, "during an attack on Boe and it drove him mad....and he blamed me."

"Then I say let's fix it. If nothing else, the slavers need to be wiped out. Punished. Eradiicated."

[captainspain]

Jack actually bounces on the balls of his feet at the idea of getting his little brother back. "Then we can put Gray somewhere safe where my younger self can find him. I can fix everything."

[x_thedoctor_x]

"Absolutely," the Doctor grinned. "What's the point of being a Time Lord if you don't use the powers you've been given. Saving Gray may change how your life turned out. Are you willing to risk that? You may disappear from my timeline."

[captainspain]

Jack thinks about this. "The same could be said with changing things with this Adric, it could change everything too. But at least Tosh might live a little longer if Gray isn't there to kill her....so I'm willing to give something up to save her."

"So this is what it's like playing God, huh?" the Doctor asked, pushing out his chest and arching both eyebrows. "Let's hope we don't explode the universe in the process, yeah?"

[captainspain]

"Even if we did we will still be together," Jack replies, "that's all that matters to me."

[x_thedoctor_x]

"Good point. Let's go mess up Time, shall we?" the Doctor said with a manic grin. "Adric, then Gray? Or Gray then Adric?"

[captainspain]

"Adric first than lets see what happens next shall we."

[x_thedoctor_x]

"Let's do it."
